According to media reports, an experimental vaccine has shown promise in delaying the recurrence of brain tumors. Also, the vaccine can extend the average survival rate from 15 to 26 months. The vaccine, SurVaxM, was developed by the US Biotech company MimiVax.

The vaccine targets a protein found in the tumors called survivin. The vaccine stimulates the production of T-cells when administered to the patient. It attacks the survivin protein in the Glioblastomas, thereby reducing the size of the tumor or preventing its growth.

Glioblastomas are one of the most fatal and treatment-resistant cancers, making up nearly half of all malignant brain tumors. The five-year survival rate associated with Glioblastomas is 6.8%. The vaccine consists of four doses administered over two months, followed by a booster dose every two months.
